Each rack can hold two bicycles.
Over 105 bike racks have been set up on the Abu Dhabi island, it was announced on Saturday. This constitutes the completion of about 40 per cent of the planned 275 racks at Sector West 7 - 22/15 and near pedestrian bridges.

According to the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the project was undertaken in response to public requests to curb "random parking of bicycles" in the Capital.

"It also follows a study by the municipality on eyesores marring the urban appearance of the city. The random parking of bicycles at public facilities, sidewalks and streetlights distorted the urban landscape of the city and posed a danger to pedestrians," the civic body said in a statement. "Due to lack of facilities, cyclists tend to park their bicycles anywhere. The municipality proposed a plan to provide alternative solutions by installing bicycle racks. Each rack can hold two bicycles."

This particular project is expected to be completed by August 2018. However, the municipality plans to bring the total number of bike racks to 550 to cover most tourist and recreational areas.
