Ten dedicated walkways have been built to improve accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities at three of Abu Dhabi's beaches.
Abu Dhabi Municipality said construction of the new paths at Corniche beach, Al Bateen Public Beach and Al Bateen Ladies beach was completed, on Sunday.
Four new play areas were also built at Corniche Beach. They included customised swings that can be used by young wheelchair users.
Six water bikes were also made available at the beach for public use. The bikes are designed with flotation devices on either side so they can be safely used by people with disabilities.
The Municipality said the aim of the projects was to provide facilities that would accommodate all members of society and allow everyone to enjoy access to the beach over the summer.
In addition to the new facilities, the Municipality renovated 30 play areas in the emirate including the four game zones designed for people with special needs.
Free public transport to Corniche Beach is available from public car parks in the area, including Nation Galleria Shopping Mall and Al Khubeirah Park.
