He was charged with possession of narcotic substances.
An African man stood trial for possessing drugs after he mixed it with detergent and tried to ship it back to his home country, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard on Monday.
The 39-year-old tourist from Seychelles reportedly placed illegal substances in an envelope, mixed it with detergents and placed a shipping order to his home country. He was charged with possession of narcotic substances.
According to prosecution records, the anti-narcotics department team did not find illegal substances during the search in his apartment.
"We asked him if he owned any narcotics. He admitted having placed a package order with a shipping company to send it to another suspect back in his home country," said the anti-narcotic department official.
The police rushed to the shipping company and seized the substance they found hidden in a detergent box. The police said the accused admitted the involvement of a second suspect who sponsored the trip and arranged money to buy the narcotics. The accused was scheduled to receive his profit after the transaction was made.
However, the accused denied the charges in court. The hearing has been adjourned to July 26 for witnesses' testimonials.
