However, the currencies being offered by such scammers could be counterfeit, the department warned in a video posted on its social media accounts. As the notes may come from dubious sources, even if they are not counterfeits, they may land the people handling them in legal trouble.

Social media platforms are used by scammers to promote the sale of such currencies during vacation time, presenting tempting exchange offers to customers. The department urges the public not to fall for these deceptive advertisements and offers.

In order to avoid legal repercussions, it advised people to engage with licensed institutions and exchange companies.
