An eight-month-old baby died after fire tore through a Dubai home.

The child was sleeping in her room at the property in Al Barsha when the blaze broke out on Sunday.

Maj Gen Abdullah Al Marri, Chief of Dubai Police, extended his sympathies during a visit to Humaid Kharousi and his family.

The senior police officer was briefed about the tragic incident during his inspection of the site.

The cause of the fire, which caused significant damage to the home, has not been disclosed.

Col Majed Al Suwaidi, Acting Director of Al Barsha Police Station, said the force were alerted to the fire in the Al Barsha 3 area at about midday.

"Upon arrival to the scene, it turned out that fire broke out in the baby's room while she was sleeping which led to her death", Col Al Suwaidi said.
