Nearly one billion people around the world have been confined to their homes after countries around the world implemented stay-at-home orders and deaths from the global coronavirus pandemic surged towards 13,000.

Europe now accounts for more than half of the world's fatalities linked to Covid-19, with Italy alone reporting nearly 800 more deaths in a single day.

The UAE announced 13 new cases on Sunday, plus seven recoveries. All beaches, parks and pools will close from Sunday.

About 92,000 patients have recovered, almost a third of the 300,000 and more cases health authorities have reported since the outbreak.
