
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus, the British government has announced.
According to a government statement, Johnson has mild symptoms and will self-isolate in Downing Street after being tested by NHS staff at the best of England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty.
In a Tweet, Johnson said that “over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.”
“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus,” he added. “Together we will beat this.”
The BBC has reported that Johnson was last seen clapping outside No.10 Downing Street as a gesture to thank National Health Service staff bon Thursday evening.
There have been over 11,600 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, including 578 deaths and 135 recoveries.
Among the prominent personalities that have tested positive for the virus in the UK is Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, who has also displayed mild symptoms.
