According to Mohammed Al Redha, Lawyer and Legal Consultant at Al Redha and Company, the Indian actress who was detained at Sharjah Airport in an alleged drug possession case has been cleared by the court. In an interview with Khaleej Times, Redha reaffirmed her innocence, stating, "She was cleared of all charges on June 12."
The 27-year-old was framed by two men who 'deceived' her with false promises of an audition and a role in a Hollywood web series, according to her lawyer. She reportedly traveled to the UAE under the impression that she was going to work as an actress.
It was the two men who tricked the actress into taking a trophy to Sharjah that had drugs hidden inside it. As soon as the woman landed at Sharjah Airport from Mumbai, she was arrested for drug possession.
The public prosecutor detained the actress for over 20 days, and her passport was confiscated. She was later released on conditional bail and lived with her uncle here in the Emirates.
The truth behind the story
According to Al Redha, the public prosecutor found that the actress' version was true after a thorough investigation. "They found the circumstances under which she was framed to be true. She did carry marijuana to the UAE; however, she did not have any knowledge about it, nor were her intentions bad, and the two men tricked her. They checked all the cameras at the airport, which matched her story," said Al Redha.
“Everything was proved right, including passing through the immigration gate, exiting the airport, and returning to immigration officers after being suspicious,” she said.
No consumption traces
Upon taking her into custody, investigators collected her urine for testing, and the results confirmed she had not consumed any drugs.
Passport pending
Al Redha mentioned that the actress’ travel ban has been lifted. Soon her name will be withdrawn from the blacklist, which denies entry and exit from the country. “We have requested her passport return and are expecting it yesterday, June 14,” said Al Redha.
“She can travel as soon as she receives her passport,” Al Redha said.
