He had illegally installed a booster to share his WiFi.
An Asian expat has been fined Dh50,000 for selling his WiFi connection to his neighbours, the Umm Al Quwain Misdemeanour Court has ruled.

Court records showed that the man illegally installed a booster for his Internet connection, so he can offer a paid WiFi service to some residents in the building where he lived.

This practice is against the law, as stated in Federal Decree No 3/2003, amended by Federal Decree No 5/2008.

The defendant was caught in December last year, following a complaint filed by an anti-fraud coordinator of a telecommunications service provider in the country.

He was referred to the public prosecution and then to the court, where he admitted to the crime.

The court found him guilty and ordered him to pay the hefty fine, plus court charges.
