New Low-Cost Airline Offers Affordable Flights between UAE, Pakistan, and India
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a budget airline, is set to expand its operations to Pakistan, India, and other countries in the region, tapping into the high demand for air travel between South Asia and the UAE. The airline is currently going through the regulatory normal process to launch flights to the Indian subcontinent, and routes and flight schedules will be announced once changes in the regulatory framework are made.
Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, has invited frequent travelers to join the Wizz Discount Club, which offers special airfare deals, including prices as low as AED 179 (Rs. 3,984) for flights between the UAE and India. However, only club members are eligible for these discounted fares.
The Pakistan-UAE route, one of the busiest in the region, will see fares as low as Rs. 15,000. This route is popular due to the significant number of Pakistanis living and working in the UAE and the high volume of tourists from Pakistan visiting the Gulf country. The airline's entry into the market is expected to give tough competition to established airlines such as Etihad Airways, Emirates, FlyDubai, and Air Arabia.
In 2022, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi transported over 1.2 million passengers on more than 6,000 flights, and it aims to increase this number to over two million passengers by 2023. The company's current Abu Dhabi service operates every three to four days, with plans to offer daily flights in the future.
The introduction of discounted fares by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is welcome news for travelers who have been facing soaring flight ticket prices. This move is expected to further strengthen ties between the UAE, Pakistan, and India, as the countries share close connections.
