
There is now a penalty of AED 50 per day for the expiration of any visa. It is now doubled for UAE residents and halved for holders of a tourist visa.
Tourists who stay beyond their visa's validity will receive a reduction in fines, the authorities announced. Overstaying on a residency permit has, however, increased from 25 to 50 dirhams per day for those found guilty of it. Changes have been in effect since October 3, when the new UAE entry and residence visa rules came into effect.
The penalty was previously calculated according to the type of expired visa.
According to a spokesperson from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, the new system unified the number of overstay fines to AED 50 per day.
In order to pay the overstay fines, either visit the happiness centers or use the website and smart app of the authority.
When accumulating the fine, any time spent requesting documents or updating information is included.
An application to renew the visa that is not submitted with the correct documents within 30 days, or the wrong documents are sent again more than three times, is canceled, and a new application must be submitted.
Those with residency visas who cancel or expire their permits have a six-month grace period in which to leave the country or change their status. A person who stays in the UAE beyond this point is committing a crime and is subject to arrest.
It is possible for an offender who has an expired visit visa to be arrested after 30 days without renewing his or her visa. To catch offenders, regular inspection campaigns are conducted.
Last month, the UAE introduced revised visa rules permitting tourists to stay for up to 60 days.
As part of a series of visa changes approved by the Cabinet in April, all entry visas will now be valid for 60 days from the date of issue (twice the previous allowance).
Tourists had to apply for visit visas of 30 days, 60 days or 90 days to enter the UAE previously.
On a new visa, one, two, and three-month entry permits are still available, but mainly to those wishing to visit friends or relatives in the country. Documents proving the relationship and reason for the trip are required.
Visas can be obtained for single and multiple entries and can be renewed for a further 60 days.
