An Ajman police officer saved a young man's life on Sunday after he attempted suicide by jumping from the top of a bridge in the emirate
According to Brigadier General Abdullah Saif Al-Matrushi, Director-General of Police Operations at Ajman Police, a report was received about an Asian citizen threatening to jump off Sheikh Khalifa bridge. Immediately a criminal investigation team and the police patrols reached the location for the rescue operation.
In a video posted by the police, the authorities show how they intervened, initiated a dialogue, and prevented the expat from jumping off the bridge.
Police mediators spoke to him as he sat at the edge of the bridge and tried to convince him not to take the extreme step. During conversation with one officer, another grabbed him from behind, and two other officers leapt into action to pull him away from danger.
The Director-General of Police Operations added that the young man was transferred to the Hamidiyah Police Station, where, after investigation, it was determined that he was facing severe financial difficulties and decided to commit suicide. The Asian was also given a thorough medical check-up, and he was found to be mentally stable and disease-free.
In order to settle his debt and resolve his financial problems, his case was referred to the community police.
