The 34-year-old went through it all despite being extremely careful about his hygiene.
Despite the ongoing preventive measures to curb Covid-19 pandemic, something rare happened to an Emirati national: he contracted the lethal disease twice.
Salem Al Hammadi, 34, said he was detected Covid-19 positive twice in April.
"It was a terrible experience during which I first lost smell and taste senses, and was then unable to walk."
He added that he went through it all despite being extremely careful about his hygiene.
"I really don't know how I have contracted the virus though I always wear my masks and gloves whenever I step out."
Al Hammadi went to the hospital when he felt unwell. "The test result that appeared two days later showed that I was Covid-19 positive."
He took all the medicines and recovered fully. "The test results I did later were negative and showed that I was normal."
Three days later, Al Hammadi started feeling the same exhaustion. "It was shocking to discover that I had contracted the same virus again."
The medicine he took did not work and his condition went from bad to worse.
"I was very sick for two long weeks during which I was unable to walk again."
Al Hammadi lost his smell and taste senses.
"Salt food used to taste bad and rotten," he said. "I felt like having more sugar and sweet foods."
Al Hammadi was quarantined in a hospital in Sharjah where he underwent 10 Covid-19 tests.
"The last two tests showed that I was Covid-19 negative and had recovered fully."
Al Hammadi had to isolate himself from his wife and kids for two long weeks.
"My wife used to put the food in front of my room to avoid infection," he said, noting that she and the kids were also tested for Covid-19. "They were quarantined in a hotel to keep them safe."
