Police in Abu Dhabi have detained two sisters, Gulf nationals, for posting fake news on social media.
The video, which went viral among UAE residents, alleged that a woman had abducted an Emirati child in the neighbourhood of Al Shamkha.

The video clip showed a woman of African origin aggressively carrying a young girl, while walking down the street.

Abu Dhabi Police has denied the allegations and confirmed that the woman recorded on camera was in fact the child’s nanny.
Police also clarified that the nanny had taken the child out for a walk following the mother’s instructions.
“Residents should not share videos, pictures or fake news that can harm society,” said Col. Omran Ahmad Al Mazrouei, director of Criminal Investigations Department in the security department at Abu Dhabi Police.

The two sisters, aged 33 and 26, were questioned for their role in filming the incident and spreading false information on social media.
He stressed that police will press charges on anyone who publishes false allegations or recirculate rumours by any form of electronic communication.
In cases of "fabricated" videos, Col Al Mazrouei explained that those responsible in publishing rumours will be reported to relevant authorities.
The case has been referred to the Family Prosecution of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
