In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), seven individuals have been convicted of practising acts of sorcery and deceiving others, resulting in a six-month prison sentence and a Dh50,000 fine. The case, which was recently disclosed by the UAE Public Prosecution, involved a group of defendants who claimed to possess the ability to "treat people" through their alleged connections with ancient spirits.

According to the details shared by the Public Prosecution on Wednesday, the case came to light when a man reported falling victim to the tactics employed by the accused. These individuals propagated that they had the power to heal and used their supposed connection with spirits to deceive others.

One of the defendants went as far as to claim that he was "possessed by the king of the kings of jinn," an entity purportedly over 400 years old. Similarly, the rest of the accused also asserted that they harbored spirits within them capable of healing people.

The charges brought against the group included practising sorcery, deception, and the possession of materials associated with black magic. As per the provisions of Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021, which deals with the Law of Crimes and Penalties, such crimes carry substantial punishments.

Consequently, the court sentenced all seven individuals to six months in jail and ordered them to pay a fine of Dh50,000, along with additional judicial fees.

In light of this case, the UAE authorities have urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals associated with black magic. The government remains committed to combatting such practices to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
