In the UAE, where summer temperatures reached 50°C at times this year, the Suhail star has finally risen, marking the end of the scorching summer heat.
A tweet from the International Astronomy Center announced the discovery of the Suhail star on Wednesday. A shift in weather has occurred on the Arabian Peninsula as a result of the sighting.
According to a tweet by the astronomy center, Canopus appeared in the early hours of twilight on August 24 over central Arabia.
Temperature drop
Suhail star visibility coincides with a slight fall in temperature, increased humidity, and southeasterly winds blowing towards the Hajar Mountains in Oman and the east coast of the UAE.
In the coming weeks, the maximum temperatures in the country will gradually decrease, according to an expert with the National Center of Meteorology.
On August 24, Suhail star will mark the end of UAE summer
The Suhail star heralds a new season of "abundance" in Emirati culture. As per Al Sadeem Observatory’s website alsadeemastronomy.ae, “the appearance of the Suhail star is the first day of the ‘Suhaili Year’, when [Emirati] people from the past based their fishing, pearl hunting, and farming activities on it. It is divided into 14 seasons.”
