Pakistani expatriates have spoken of their disappointment when the country’s flag was projected onto the Burj Khalifa upside down.
The flag was displayed by LED lights on the world’s tallest building on Friday to mark Pakistan’s independence day.
But residents took to social media shortly after to point out it was displayed incorrectly.
Twitter user, @Geeta_Mohan wrote: “Dubai's Burj Khalifa lights up with Pakistan flag. But, the flag is upside down. #BurjKhalifa @PakEmbassyinUAE @ForeignOfficePk.”
The Pakistan Association in Dubai also took to Twitter on Saturday, tagging Burj Khalifa and developer, Emaar, in a tweet.
It posted two pictures of the Pakistan flag being displayed on the iconic building. One from March 2017, which showed how the flag should have appeared, and one from Friday, showing the flag being displayed incorrectly.
“Dear @BurjKhalifa @emaardubai The first picture is from yesterday and the second one is from March 2017. Please look at the placement of the flag. Yesterday’s portrayal of the flag has hurt the sentiments of many Pakistanis. This is not how the flag is represented.”
The event took place at 8.42pm on Friday, and the building lit up in the Pakistan flag's iconic green and white colours for two minutes. Thousands of people gathered around the Dubai Mall fountain area to mark the occasion, two days after the country's official independence day celebrations on Wednesday.
Emaar has been contacted for comment.
