Sophie Qureshi reveals why she is captivated by the city
Dubai. The land where modern art meets culture. Where the dessert and skyscrapers co-exist in sync with one another. Where one would find oneself completely immersed in the city's sheer glory and beauty and instantly feel a connection that's almost cosmic. The land of excitement and peace, wrapped together in harmony.
This being my fifth visit in the last three years, accounts for only one explanation - I've become one of this city's greatest admirers. Now, what is it about Dubai that is so alluring? What brings millions of tourists to this city every year and have them leave their hearts behind each time? No, it isn't the authentic chicken shawarma (though it can be a close contender). The answer is quite simple - the feeling of acceptance.
It's like walking into an unfamiliar city for the first time and instantly feeling like you're home. It's that lingering emotion within you, letting you know that you're safe and well taken care of. Long-standing traditions blend with present-day innovation and you have for yourself a city that never fails to amaze. Catering to every unspoken need and providing unparalleled experience, Dubai's hospitality far exceeds the realm of one's imagination.
I distinctly remember the feeling when I first saw Burj Khalifa, standing tall in all its glory and magnificence. It wasn't just the architecture and immensity of the structure that had me fixated, no. It was what it signified - strength and solidarity. I believe that's what Dubai is all about; indestructible yet welcoming.
The serene turquoise waters of Jumeirah beach delicately surrounding the spectacular Burj Al Arab make for a beautiful post on social media (the millennial in me agrees). However, nothing compares to the newest beachfront - La Mer. Right from palm tree-lined boulevards to graffiti art murals, it has it all; a blogger's paradise, with an array of options for all the food enthusiasts which includes fast food franchises, quaint cafes and dessert parlours.
What I most look forward to are my visits to the Global Village. This sprawling destination houses shopping, entertainment and leisure opportunities for all ages and nationalities, showcasing pavillions from various countries that highlight its richness and culture with food stalls, shopping items and stage shows. To top it off, adrenaline rush seekers have their much loved roller coasters and rides that are either best fit for children, or heart-racing adventures!
Dubai to me, isn't just a run-of-the-mill holiday that is easily replaceable with the next. It's a place where I feel I most belong. A place that captures my heart and releases my soul. A place I so adoringly call my second home.
