Police made the announcement on Thursday.
In just three days, motorists driving in Abu Dhabi will face fines if they go faster by even 1kmph than the posted speed limit as the emirate removes the 20kmh speed limit buffer.

Abu Dhabi Police had announced earlier that the speed limit on the roads will be revised and motorists would no longer enjoy the buffer from August 12 onwards. Speed limits on highways and internal roads would be increased by the buffer margin from that date.

However, some roads will continue having the same speed limits even if the buffer is removed.

the Abu Dhabi Police has announced that the speed limit on the Abu Dhabi - Al Ain Road, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway (Al Mafraq - Al Ghuweifat Road) will continue to be 160kmh. The police emphasised that there will be no change to the speed limits along the two highways even after the speed limit buffer is removed.

Both highways have the highest speed limits in the country. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway is even known as the UAE's fastest road.
