Sheikh Nahyan said the UAE is a tolerant nation and promotes peace and cooperation.
The UAE is a Muslim country but is open for all, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, said while opening the 20th Gulf Mar Thoma Youth Conference in Abu Dhabi.

Addressing a gathering of about 1,000 members from 18 churches spread across the Gulf region, Sheikh Nahyan said the UAE is a tolerant nation and promotes peace and cooperation.

"Good human beings tolerate and respect one another and understand each other's good motives, whatever their cultural differences and personal beliefs maybe. The UAE is a Muslim country and an occasion like this conference reflects our respect for all other religions and faiths. My presence here is an embodiment of tolerance - one of the core values of the UAE," Sheikh Nahyan said while opening the three-day conference at Abu Dhabi Mar Thoma Church in Mussafah.

"The Year of Tolerance finds its origin in the concept of tolerance for all. All means all, without any exception. All segment of society, nationalities, religions and regions of the country. The UAE has allowed people from different places and different religious and ethnic backgrounds to live in harmony, and cooperate and contribute to enriching the lives of all," he added.

The conference, held under the theme 'Word of the Wilderness', will see many workshops, interactive sessions, activities and more.
