His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has called on citizens to nominate projects for UAE Pioneers.
The initiative honours citizens who are pioneers in their respective fields.
The entrants are nominated through the #UAE_Pioneers hashtag.
“Citizens will have the opportunity to choose the most vital projects that influenced the UAE’s journey, projects that they feel are an extension of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s journey and his vision for the nation’s future,” tweeted Shaikh Mohammad.
“The entries were nominated through the #UAE_Pioneers hashtag. We will honour work teams and immortalise their efforts in the history of our country.”
Recognising achievements
“This year, we will celebrate the UAE Pioneers differently. We will not recognise figures but achievements and projects that have left their imprint on the UAE’s history…projects that were set up in our country…"
"We will recognise cultural, social, economic, scientific and infrastructure projects that will leave an indelible impact on the march of our country, projects that will make the late Shaikh Zayed happy even though he is no longer with us.”
“We have projects like the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Metro, and the Cleveland Clinic…projects such as the Prince of Poets, Reading Challenge and the Million’s Poet.
Shaikh Mohammad added: "We also have other projects like the Khalifa University, American University of Sharjah and Union Museum and the Hope Mars Mission. Nominate projects that if Shaikh Zayed were with us, he will be happy to see."
"We will honour the work teams of the most outstanding projects on the National Day.”

What is UAE Pioneers:
On 1 December 2014, in conjunction with the 43rd UAE National Day celebrations, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, recognised 43 Emiratis with The UAE Pioneers Award.
The Award was given in honour of their service to the nation and their pioneering spirit and for being the first in their field.
The Awards were the culmination of a social media initiative launched with a tweet from Shaikh Mohammad’s Twitter account in November 2014.
The hashtag campaign prompted Emiratis to nominate fellow countrymen and women who they believed were pioneers in their respective fields.
The social media campaign galvanised the community, with nominations rolling in from all segments of Emirati society. Within two weeks there were more than 137,000 entries, all nominated with the hashtag #UAE_Pioneers.
In 2017, the organising committee of the "UAE Pioneers" initiative has received more than 800 nominations for pioneering Emirati personalities in philanthropy and giving, in line with the Year of Giving 2017 announced by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
